Health & Hygiene

Better Everyday Living

The challenge

Identify a real gap in the health, hygiene, safety, or well-being of the people around you, and work out an innovative way to help individuals or a community live healthier. Then investigate it and present what you find.

Your focus could be nutrition · sanitation · mental well-being · disease prevention · safety at home or school · access to care.

Sample problems

Use one as-is, adapt it, or bring your own.

Sample problem A — The School Canteen

Are the meals available to your classmates actually helping them study and grow?

  1. 01Survey what students eat during the school day — canteen, tiffin, snacks outside the gate.
  2. 02For each common item, find its nutritional profile and rough cost.
  3. 03Talk to parents, teachers, and the canteen about why the current menu looks the way it does.
  4. 04Compare with dietary guidelines for your age group and spot the real gaps.

Then, recommend a realistic, affordable menu redesign that students would actually eat.

Sample problem B — Hygiene at Home

Where do everyday health risks quietly hide in the average home?

  1. 01List routines around water, food storage, cleaning, and waste in a few households.
  2. 02For each, note the risks — contamination, pests, indoor air, mosquito breeding — and how they're currently managed.
  3. 03Interview families about what they'd change if it were easy or cheap.
  4. 04Compare local practices with recognised hygiene guidance.

Then, recommend three small, affordable habit changes with the biggest health payoff.
