The challenge

The Open Arena is the build track. Take a real problem in any field — technology, space, agriculture, governance, accessibility, rural innovation, or everyday life — investigate why it happens, and create an original solution for it. This is where an idea becomes a working thing.

Your focus could be technology · space · agriculture · governance · accessibility · rural innovation · everyday life.

Sample problems

Use one as-is, adapt it, or bring your own.

Sample problem A — Accessibility, everywhere

What does your school, bus stop, or park look like from a wheelchair?

  1. 01Pick one public place and map the accessibility barriers a student with a mobility, hearing, or visual impairment would face.
  2. 02Talk to a few people directly affected — what would they most want changed?
  3. 03Sketch two or three possible interventions (physical, digital, or social).
  4. 04Prototype one — a jig, an app screen, a signage kit, a training card.

→ Then, demonstrate your prototype and show how it removes one specific barrier.

Sample problem B — Everyday agriculture

What's one thing that would make a small farmer's day easier — this season?

  1. 01Interview one or two smallholder farmers about the biggest friction in their current cycle.
  2. 02Pick the smallest, most annoying step you can build for.
  3. 03Design a lo-fi solution — a jig, sensor, chart, app screen, or process.
  4. 04Test it in a rough form with the person you interviewed.

→ Then, present the fix, what it changed, and what you'd do next.

What you'll submit

  • Progress Submission

    The problem statement you've taken, plus a pitch of your idea and the research you've done.

  • Final Submission

    Your presentation, pitch, or a small lo-fi prototype of your solution.

What judges look for
  • ◆A real problem, clearly understood.
  • ◆The originality and usefulness of your solution.
  • ◆Evidence that your build actually addresses the problem.
  • ◆How clearly you present and demonstrate it.
